We engage educators and school leaders to learn from each other’s success
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Compact partners come together to study, plan, and implement instructional practices through PLCs. Currently, teams from eight BPS, charter, and Catholic schools are learning how to use AI to better support multilingual learners with disabilities. Past PLCs have focused on topics such as multi-tiered systems of support or literacy for young Black and Latino boys. Our PLCs offer educators support from content experts.
RECRUITMENT
Often, the Compact is a convening table at which educators lead their own efforts. For example, Special Education leaders from the three sectors might work to develop and distribute guidance on the process for moving individualized education plans between schools, or how a student being assigned to an out-of-district placement, or
TRANSPORTATION
The Compact serves as a venue for addressing education challenges across the City of Boston. Participants have collaborated for years to improve the student transportation (yellow school buses) system; to recruit educators who reflect the racial, cultural, linguistic, and gender diversity of our students; and to develop common language for an attendance campaign addressing chronic absenteeism.
